Role

The research fellow will contribute to a range of projects in the field of economic evaluation applied to health and social care. Projects will include policy analyses to inform decisions in the UK and internationally; including those under the NICE technology assessment programme, as well as methods development projects.  

Role holders will be required to undertake some or all the duties below:

  • To contribute to the development of the research of the University by managing significant areas of research activity within a specified field
  • To contribute to the overall management of the area of research in areas such as budget management and business planning, time management and contribute to departmental level strategic planning as appropriate
  • To contribute actively to knowledge creation and dissemination that fits with the overall Department and University strategy
  • To provide technical leadership - including new methods development - on aspects of projects relating to decision modelling, uncertainty analysis and value of information methods
  • To contribute to the identification and leadership of opportunities involving new areas of research
  • To supervise and develop less experienced researchers
  • To actively seek and attract funding for research and to hold grants, acting as principal investigator on research projects
  • To generate and provide evidence of research impact

Skills, Experience, Knowledge & Qualifications needed

  • PhD or equivalent research experience in health economics or another quantitative area, with a focus on economic evaluation.
  • Well-established national and international reputation in area of research
  • Expert knowledge in economic evaluation in health shown evidenced high quality research.
  • Evidence of strong quantitative skills.
  • Knowledge of a range of research techniques and methods for the evaluation of interventions.
  • Highly developed skills in decision analysis, uncertainty analysis and value of information analysis
  • Skills in use of spreadsheets (e.g., advanced Excel) and/or statistical software packages (e.g., Stata or R).
  • Evidence of influencing policy and/or contribution to national or international bodies
  • Proven experience of attracting and obtaining significant external research funding
  • Supervision of less experienced researchers.
