The Programme Design and Learning Technology (PDLT) team is part of the Library, Archives & Learning Services department, which is situated within the Student & Academic Services Directorate. The PDLT team plays an important role in helping academic departments in the design, delivery and evaluation of learning technology interventions at the activity, module and programme level. The team is responsible for managing the University’s centrally-supported virtual learning environment and supports a wide range of other learning technologies, including lecture recording, technology-supported assessment, in-class technologies and collaboration out of class.

Role

This is a fixed term post in the Programme Design and Learning Technology Team, which is funded through the VLE Transformation project, to support the rollout of the new cloud-hosted virtual learning environment (VLE) Blackboard Learn Ultra. You will be assigned to the Arts/Humanities faculty to help with their VLE module site design and online delivery activities, making best use of the Ultra user interface and tool-set to provide a high-quality experience for students. The Faculty VLE Support Officer role will provide an opportunity for personal development in acquiring skills and experience in delivering learning technology training and support services to staff and students.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

The post-holder reports to the Assistant Director (Programme Design and Learning Technology).

Embedded within the Arts/Humanities faculty, you will provide ‘at desk’ support to staff and will enable departments to make a smooth transition to the new Ultra platform. You will support close liaison between academic departments and the wider VLE Transformation Project team, as well as other central professional services. You will become an expert in the Blackboard Learn Ultra platform and will work proactively to help staff to reconceptualise the design of VLE module sites to best fit with the Ultra environment and its focus on active student learning. You will provide training and guidance on the Ultra Base Navigation and new tools in the Ultra Course View, such as progress tracking and discussion analytics.

Candidates should have knowledge of the underlying educational processes in using learning technologies to enhance student learning and academic practice in higher education, and a demonstrable ability to explain pedagogic and technical issues clearly to people at all levels of technical and academic knowledge.

This is a fixed-term post (12 months, available from 8th March 2023. The salary will be in the Grade 5 range of the University’s salary scales.)
