About Us?
Xplore! Science Discovery Centre is a unique visitor attraction and educational charity in the heart of Wrexham town centre. It is the place where science comes alive and there is nothing quite like it in the region. The STEM outreach programme takes shows and workshops to schools and events across north Wales and into northwest England. The team at Xplore! are passionate, committed, and welcoming to all.
About the role?
Outreach Presenter Science Communicators are the face of Xplore! for activities delivered out in schools. It’s a role where you inspire the next generation of scientists, support teachers in delivering the curriculum, and share science in exciting and innovative ways.
The post-holders will work with Xplore!’s Education Team to deliver high-quality STEM workshops and shows to school learners in the early years of primary to the GCSE-level of secondary school. Maintaining equipment and resources for the range of activities on our education programme, as well as contributing to updating scripts and keeping your science knowledge relevant, will be part of the role. Outreach Presenter Science Communicators are responsible for ensuring they reach venues with adequate time to set-up and to discuss learning objectives with school staff.
Over school holidays, those in this role will deliver activities both within the science centre and at community events across the region.
Full training in and support with Xplore!’s range of activities will be provided.
This role is for Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursday. Set hours are 08:00 to 16:00 with overtime paid for longer shifts as required for outreaches further afield. Xplore! is currently looking to appoint two Outreach Presenter Science Communicators.
About you?
As an Outreach Presenter Science Communicator, you will have a keen interest in science and be passionate about communicating with people about anything and everything. You love engaging, talking and presenting to a wide range of audiences. We believe that confidence and subject knowledge can be built and learnt over time but showing initiative and wanting to give something a go will be second nature to you. You are an excellent team player while also having the ability to be a self-directed worker.
You will hold a driving licence and be happy to drive our company vans to events and workshops held for school learners. Flexibility to work overtime to accommodate longer shifts to schools and venues slightly further afield is essential. Term-time only contracts will be considered for the right candidate.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this role. Representation is incredibly important for sparking a passion for science, with that in mind Xplore! celebrates diversity and welcomes applications from all backgrounds.
