Faculty / School

Interior Design at De Montfort University sits within the Design Department, in the School of Art, Design and Architecture, in the Faculty of Arts, Design and Humanities. Consisting of three distinct but inter-related areas – Interior Design, Product Design and Design Crafts, we are well equipped to foster dynamic cross-disciplinary dialogue and practice.

The Role

Interior Design at De Montfort University includes undergraduate and postgraduate study while also supporting PhD provision. It is an area with a longstanding history and reputation, supported with extensive and dedicated facilities within our city centre campus. The Interior Design programmes develop students into creative professionals who can respond to future global challenges and reflect the importance of sustainability and inclusivity in contemporary interior design. It challenges students to reimagine existing interiors as well as question the idea of ‘space’ to create innovative and experiential spaces. It focuses on the way people interact within these environments, considering comfort, usability, effectiveness, aesthetics and emotional connection. The studio-based courses explore the regeneration and adaptation of real buildings and develops the students’ visual communication skills in drawing, 3D modelling, computing, CAD and VR.
