Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and highly motivated Research Laboratory Technician to work in the Anaesthetics, Pain Medicine & Intensive Care Section of the Department of Surgery & Cancer, at Imperial College London. You will work under the supervision of Dr Robert Dickinson located at the South Kensington Campus.
The position is funded by the Gas Safety Trust on a project to investigate the effects on the brain of exposure to carbon monoxide in an animal model.
Duties and Responsibilities
The postholder will fulfil an important role within the group, collecting, processing and analysing in vivo biological samples. They will be involved in performing laboratory techniques to prepare and analyse histological samples, as well as assisting with experiments. In addition to research support, the duties include laboratory administrative responsibilities, and contributions to the training and supervision of junior members of research lab including PhD and MSc/MRes students
The postholder will undertake: the collection, preparation, processing and storage of brain and other tissue specimens; immuno-histochemical preparation of samples collected from such studies; confocal- and/or fluorescence microscopy and analysis of histological specimens.
Essential requirements:
Bachelor Degree in a biological science or related field, or equivalent vocational qualification and / or equivalent experience in laboratory environment. Previous laboratory experience, particularly in histology techniques is essential. Experience of tissue sectioning, immunohistochemistry and fluorescence-imaging techniques is essential. Excellent communication and organisational skills are necessary, in addition to strong inter-personal skills with an ability to work co-operatively in a multidisciplinary setting.
Further Information
This is a part-time and fixed term post for 12 months. Part-time hours include either working 21 hours a week (0.6 FTE) or 28 hours a week (0.8 FTE). You will be based at the South Kensington Campus.
