The School of GeoSciences at the University of Edinburgh invites applications for a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Ecology. The position is an open-ended contract with an expected start date in summer 2023. The level of appointment for the position will be determined by the selection panel.
The successful candidate will be an internationally excellent scientist in one or more fields relating to ecology, whose research and teaching interests complement and extend our existing strengths. Priority research and teaching areas include (but are not limited to) one or more of the following: agroecology, biodiversity, biogeography, conservation, community ecology, landscape ecology, macroecology. We welcome candidates with expertise in ecological applications of remote sensing/airborne platforms and data-driven innovation in ecology.

The opportunity:
We are looking to recruit a leader to play a major role in furthering our activities in research and teaching within Ecological Science. The successful candidate will be an innovative researcher with a strong and current record of research funding and internationally excellent publications. They will possess in depth knowledge of their specialism to enable the development of new knowledge, innovation and understanding in the field. They should be able to demonstrate the potential to lead and mentor research teams and staff, to provide innovative teaching and learning, and to communicate with a wide range of decision makers and stakeholders. The appointee will contribute to the development of curricula, and teaching and assessment on the Ecological and Environmental Sciences undergraduate degree programmes and supervise postgraduate researchers. They are expected to foster internal collaborations and secure research funding from a range of sources to grow a research group in Edinburgh. The appointee will contribute to citizenship, equality and diversity and a commitment to creating an inclusive culture in the School.
