We are seeking a scientist with research experience in structural biology and biophysics to join an industry-academia, multi-disciplinary drug discovery team based in the new Centre for Targeted Protein Degradation (CeTPD) within Dundee’s School of Life Sciences.

This is a unique opportunity to gain experience in world-leading industry-style drug discovery within an academic setting. The post may also provide opportunities for short work placements at Boehringer Ingelheim’s research site. The position is available immediately and until 31st December 2023 in the first instance. This term may be extendable depending on project progress and funding. Salary will depend on experience.

Your Priorities will include

  • Characterise the binding the small molecule bifunctional degraders to their target protein and E3 ligases using a range of biophysical and biochemical techniques including but not limited to X-ray crystallography, cryo-EM, NMR spectroscopy and a wider range of ‘in-solution’ biophysical techniques such as SPR, ITC, and fluorescence-based assays amongst other.
  • Design constructs and express and purify proteins to enable compound evaluation.
  • Execute and optimize binding assays in vitro to profile novel compounds
  • Develop team science, working with colleagues across disciplines to enable breakthroughs.

Who we are looking for

  • Ph.D in structural biology, biophysics, biochemistry chemical biology or a related discipline
  • Highly experienced in structural biology and biophysics, with an emphasis on structure-based drug design.
  • Strong background in protein structure determination by either X-ray crystallography, or cryo-EM, or NMR spectroscopy.
  • Strong interpersonal, time management and communication skills
  • An open and collaborative approach to science

Preferred Skills

  • Outstanding academic or industrial track records
  • Experience working in drug discovery teams
  • Strong data science and computational skills

Appointment on the Grade 7 salary scale is dependent upon you having been awarded a PhD. An appointment may be considered if you are shortly expected to be awarded a PhD. The initial appointment would be made as a Research Assistant on the Training Grade 7 salary scale (Spinal Point 25 - 28).

Location: The post holder will be based at the newly refurbished CeTPD complex in the Hawkhill, adjacent to the Life Sciences Complex.
