Applications are invited for an indefinite Assistant / Associate Professorship in International Political Economy (IPE) in the Department of Politics and International Studies (PAIS) at the University of Warwick to start September 2023. The appointment will either be made at FA7 or FA8 of the University of Warwick salary scale; this will be based on experience and candidate’s ability to meet the appropriate person specification. Candidates are asked to specify the level that they wish to be considered for.
We are looking for an exceptional researcher and teacher in IPE. The Department’s IPE cluster is world renowned for its research into global finance, trade policy, global economic governance, feminist and everyday political economy, classical and historical political economy, the political economy of the state, East Asian development, and global environmental politics. We are looking for someone who can either deepen our existing teaching and research base or can complement it by bringing new areas of expertise into the department, such as those with interests in race and political economy, the Global South, or work and new technologies. We are a methodologically pluralist department, and welcome all different approaches to the study of IPE.
The successful candidate will have an international reputation and deliver world-leading research publications in distinguished journals and presses. You will be expected to develop high-quality bids for external research funding and demonstrate a commitment to achieving non-academic impact. In addition, the post-holder will contribute to the successful delivery and development of PAIS undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes.
The successful candidate will have the ability and willingness to act as Module Director on at least one of our flagship IPE modules including: Foundations of Political Economy, States and Markets, and Theories and Issues in International Political Economy. You will also support the supervision of dissertations at UG and PGT levels and will be willing to take on PhD supervision in areas that align with your research. You will have a proven track record of and/or lived experience of addressing Equality, Diversity and Inclusion issues in the workplace, as well as a commitment to decolonising the curriculum and teaching practices. An active commitment to anti-racist and/or alternative critical pedagogies is highly desirable.
To apply, please complete the online application form. Include a CV, names of three expert referees and a covering letter of no more than three pages outlining: how you meet the job description criteria, your teaching expertise and interests, your research objectives and aspirations, details on how you will attract funding, what makes your research distinctive and how you would develop collaborations within PAIS and externally. Please also include a copy of your best publication in the last 5 years.
You can also include details of any career breaks you may have taken (e.g. parental/caring/long-term sick leave, part-time work, secondments) or any periods where you were unable to work because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
