About us
The Department of Philosophy at UCL is one of the leading philosophy departments in the UK. In the 2021 REF, 60% of our overall profile received the top grade (4*), the highest of any UK philosophy department.
We offer several undergraduate degree programmes. Undergraduate first-year modules usually involve two hours of lectures per week; second-year modules usually involve a one-hour lecture plus a one-hour seminar per week; third year modules usually involve two hours of seminars per week.
About the role
The posts are offered on a one-year fixed term contract, full-time basis, with a start date of September 2025.
Main purpose of the job
The successful candidates will be expected primarily to provide teaching, supervision and associated administrative duties. We will make four appointments, in three areas:
• Early Modern
• Metaphysics
• Practical (two positions), i.e. ethics / politics
About you
Candidates must hold a PhD in Philosophy or be soon to be awarded one. Applicants must demonstrate expertise in the areas to be taught, with an aptitude for teaching and be committed to fostering a positive learning environment for students.
