Applications are invited for a Research Assistant/Associate (Postdoctoral Researcher) in the Department of Engineering, to work on the testing of Li Ion battery cathodes fabricated by flame pyrolysis as part of an EPSRC Grant with partners at the University of Cambridge and UCL. The post holder will be located at the University of Cambridge in the group of Prof. Michael De Volder (www.nanomanufacturing.eng.cam.ac.uk/).
The successful applicant will focus on fabrication of battery electrodes using flame pyrolysis as well as their testing and optimisation for battery performance. This involves battery slurry preparation and optimisation of its composition, coating electrodes and building cells. Other key responsibilities of the candidate include the electrochemical testing of the batteries, processing and testing of cathode materials, battery material characterisation methods, work together with the team to optimise the flame pyrolysis process.
We will consider candidates with various research backgrounds including engineering, chemistry, physics and material science. Applicants are required to have a PhD or be close to obtaining a PhD and have relevant experience in some of the following areas: battery fabrication and testing, electrode structuring, battery fabrication as well as electrochemistry and/or operando methods for Li-Ion battery testing.
Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.
Salary Ranges:
Research Assistant: £27,929 - £32,348
Research Associate: £34,308 - £42,155
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 5 months in the first instance.
