Please note that employment in the post of Graduate Technical Assistant (Physical Activity) is contingent on the continuation of PhD study. This post is also subject to a background disclosure check by the Disclosure and Barring Service before any appointment can be confirmed.

This is a fixed term, four-year part time Graduate Technical Assistant post within the Sport and Exercise discipline of the Sciences Subject Area.  The post requires you to undertake technician demonstrator duties related to the Sport and Exercise degrees, whist also studying towards a PhD qualification. The PhD will be in the the discipline of Physical Activity and Health under the supervision of Dr Declan Ryan and Dr Melinda Spencer.  The fees for the four-year duration of the PhD will be fully covered. 

Applicants will be asked to create a two-page proposal for how they would engage diverse, local stakeholders as part of a co-productive process, to ensure community needs inform the on-going shaping of the Active Quarter.  This two-page proposal should be submitted as part of the application and emailed to Dr Declan Ryan along with your application by the closing date:  Declan.Ryan@northampton.ac.uk

About you 

You should have successfully completed an Undergraduate and Masters degree in Sport and Exercise Science or a related health, psychology, sociology or science area with a focus on physical activity, health and well being.  A proven working knowledge and experience of qualitative research methods is a distinct advantage, although not essential, as is previous experience of teaching or operating teaching and research laboratories in Further or Higher Education. 

You will have good written and verbal communication, community engagement experience, well developed time management and excellent organisation skills.  Good IT skills, including competence in standard Microsoft 365 software packages.

Qualifications 

Essential:

  • Degree in relevant subject such as Sport and Exercise Science, Health Science, Health Sociology, Health Psychology, or a related discipline
  • Master’s degree in relevant subject such as Sport and Exercise Science Health Science, Health Sociology, Health Psychology or a related field
  • Willingness to obtain Professional recognition as an HEA Fellow (D2) or teaching qualification recognised by HESA, or a willingness to obtain within a reasonable timeframe
