The University of Portsmouth is an ambitious institution with a track record of success. One of only four universities in the south east of England to achieve a Gold rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework and ranked in the top 150 in the Times Higher Young University World Rankings.
As the result of continued investment, we are seeking to appoint a Reader in Protein Engineering and Synthetic Biology. This represents an exciting opportunity to join our top-rated School to complement long-standing and existing strengths in this area. We are seeking an individual that has used their knowledge and skills to further develop their own research, and who will collaborate with colleagues to strengthen research within the School.
Our Department houses both the award-winning Centre for Enzyme Innovation and the internationally recognised European Xenopus Resource Centre. The applicant should have a substantial high-impact publication record and demonstrate the successful generation of grant revenue.
The Department is well regarded as shown in league tables (14th in the Guardian league table) and has good student satisfaction. In addition, the School performed well in the Research Excellence Framework with 100% of the impact from our research being classified as 4*/3*, having outstanding and very considerable impacts in terms of reach and significance.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the teaching specifically in these areas but also across all areas of the broader Biology curriculum.
