There is an Integrated Clinical Method (ICM) post available – this is the aspect of the programme that teaches the clinical examination, history taking and clinical procedures. We are looking for a practitioner who has experience in teaching undergraduate medical students to take on this role. The teaching for this is on a Thursday and is a full day commitment. The applicant should have some practical experience of teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate levels, (or a willingness to attend educational courses). They should be working in general practice, have completed vocational training and have membership of the RCGP. An ability to teach communication skills and experience of working with simulated patients would be an advantage. 

Managerial responsibilities (full list in JD)

  1. The School of Medicine includes a group of Senior Clinical Tutors working in Primary Care. Many of these Tutors have responsibilities for sections of the Curriculum and take part in research.
  2. The post holder will be expected to form a part of the core ‘Teaching Team’ and contribute to the further development of the Medical Curriculum at the School of Medicine, Swansea University.
  3. Teaching responsibilities
  4. The post holder will teach students on the 4-year Graduate Entry Medicine Programme for a maximum of two sessions per week (on Thursdays). These teaching sessions form part of the Integrated Clinical Method module and require an ability to use a variety of teaching methods and often involves role play, facilitation, discussion and feedback.

  1. The University has adopted a position where quality assurance procedures are integrated throughout all its activities and all staff must conform to these procedures
  2. Members of staff are encouraged to maintain and enhance links with the professional institutions. Engaging with other academics in the field, through networking at conferences, involvement in formal groups, or participation in professional activity.
  3. The development of industry/university partnerships and new research projects is an important part of the role.
  4. Managing personal administrative tasks related to own work. Planning, prioritising and progressing own work, to fit the achievement of own priorities around the requirements of others.

Essential Criteria

  1. To be a qualified Medical Practitioner working in the field of Primary Care.
  2. Demonstrable track record of teaching in either Undergraduate or Postgraduate medicine.
  3. Evidence of the ability to lead and effectively manage a team.
  4. Excellent literacy, numeracy, and specialist IT skills relating to the appointment
