The Department of Design is part of the Manchester School of Art - the 2nd oldest art school in the UK. Student experience is at the heart of everything we do and we're proud to offer state-of-the-art facilities, including digital and technical workshops, studios and gallery spaces designed to enhance learning and collaboration. The department of Design is renowned for its international and world-class research in transdisciplinary Design Innovation with Sustainability; Community and Heritage; Making and Materiality; and Design for Health and Wellbeing; and its award-winning pedagogy in collaborative Design practice Unit X.
We aim to create a viable future by facilitating responsible cultural, social, material, and technological transformations and we place value on responding to the needs of industry and society to address critical challenges. Our ambition is to be internationally recognised for employing design intelligently to address global challenges, whilst seeking to push the boundaries of research and practice led design and pedagogy, to create the agenda setters of the future.
Our research and teaching builds on extensive heritage and connection to the creative industries which has enabled us to become one of the leading providers of design education nationally, and our research and education are consistently highly ranked in subject league tables. Through this, we provide unique opportunities for collaborative co-creation across our global network of educational partners, research associations and industry professionals.
The Role
We now seek a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Illustration with Animation to contribute to the teaching, research, and future development of our undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The role will involve working with existing colleagues on the BA and MA courses to develop exciting project briefs, entrepreneurial and employability skills and an excellent student experience whilst contributing to the strategic priorities and wider management of the department of Design.
Successful candidates will be highly organised and able to confidently contribute to developing and delivering an excellent student experience. They will have an expanded view of Illustration with Animation via their research and/or professional practice expertise, along with evidence of innovative contribution to education or research priorities across illustration/design specialisms.
Candidates should demonstrate a clear understanding of the traditions and skills that fundamentally inform core Illustration curriculum and the way this interfaces with emerging digital skills/employability/collaboration/co-creation opportunities. Knowledge of expanded boundaries of practice / hybrid areas and interdisciplinarity is also desirable, as is the ability to engage with emerging digital technologies.
