We are seeking to appoint a Research Hub Managers (RHM) to work closely with key academic staff to support research activities and grant proposal submissions within the Faculty of Social Sciences.
Reporting to the Faculty Research Manager, you will be an integral member of the Faculty research support team, based in a hub working across a group of departments. The team provides specialist knowledge, advice and services in relation to research support activities.
You will be responsible for leading the pre-award research support for your group of departments including grant costings, proposal development and submission, REF administration and ethical review processes. You will also have oversight and coordinate the key research information systems supporting this activity. You will be expected to keep up to date with institutional, faculty and funder priorities and policies and work with academic staff locally to support the maintenance of external relationships.
You will also be responsible for the supervision and development of the Research Support Officer(s) in the hub in which you will be based, overseeing all aspects of their activity.
While you will work in a team supporting a specific group of departments, there will also be opportunities to contribute to initiatives and work with colleagues from across the wider research support community at the University of Sheffield.
We are looking for someone who:
To succeed in this role, you will be pragmatic and assertive but also able to find compromise positions on your own service delivery and in the grant proposals you and colleagues are supporting. With existing experience of working within a research, knowledge exchange or impact environment, you will provide leadership to the research hub operations to coordinate all interfaces of research support. You will communicate in a straight-forward and appropriate way with internal and external stakeholders and will be willing to contribute to the development of policies and systems to deliver an integrated and consistent research support network across the University. You will have a proactive approach and be able to deal with a volume of work with constantly changing priorities in a timely and customer-friendly manner.
Higher education experience is desirable but not essential and we welcome applications from candidates with relevant experience in other sectors too.
We’re one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University’s Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.
