The Opportunity:

The Adsorption and Membrane Separation Processes Laboratory in the School of Engineering is seeking to appoint an Experimental Officer who will be actively involved in contributing to the research programme of the Laboratory. This will involve overseeing the operation of the Laboratory, working collaboratively with and in support of its academic and research staff and students. The post holder will ensure that the development of the Laboratory supports and keeps pace with the research requirements, liaising with funders, collaborators and users, and advising and training staff and students.

The Adsorption and Membrane Separation Processes Laboratory is a state-of-the art facility with a range of experimental systems that include commercial units and in-house designs. One of the main strengths lies in the ability to design equipment and develop novel methodologies to measure equilibrium and transport phenomena in nanoporous materials. The successful candidate will hold a PhD in Chemical Engineering or related discipline and/or significant relevant professional experience, extensive technical problem-solving skills, substantial relevant research experience and a clear understanding of the importance of Health & Safety and other relevant regulations and procedures.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • A PhD degree in Chemical Engineering or related discipline and/or significant relevant professional experience.
  • Substantial research experience in separation processes, carbon capture and characterisation of nanoporous materials for adsorption and membrane separation processes.
  • Expertise in relevant approaches, dynamic models and methods for gas separations.
  • Experience operating and performing research using chromatographic, volumetric and membrane permeation apparatuses.
  • Experience with engineering instrumentation systems including analogue/digital data acquisition and related signal conditioning.
