Project: Biodegradable and recyclable graphene-based clothing
This project is the subject of an Innovate UK Smart Grant, reserved for only the most game-changing innovations, and funded by the UK government’s innovation body. The aim of the project is to work with Nanoloom Limited to create a range of fibres from a graphene-based polymer and use them to construct a range of fabrics that will be strong, elastic, biodegradable and recyclable, suitable for applications in the performance-wear sector of apparel (sportswear, outdoor-wear, winter-wear).
Nanoloom was recently highlighted by Forbes as one of London’s leading fashion tech innovators, and its new materials have large potential across a range of applications within fashion and beyond. The vision of the company is to create scalable, biodegradable and recyclable materials that mechanically outperform the materials currently relied upon by the apparel industry which shed microplastics.
