The Accounting Group at Essex Business School has established strengths in conducting world-class research in accounting from an interdisciplinary perspective. It is the leading research group nationally and internationally on research into accounting in emerging economies, hosting the editor of the Journal of Accounting in Emerging Economies (JAEE). The Group has also built a very strong cluster which focuses on financial and non-financial reporting, hosting the chair of the BAFA special interest group on Financial Accounting and Reporting (FARSIG). It has also strengthened its public sector accounting research profile, hosting the chair of the Public Service Accounting and Accountability Group, the joint-editorship of Financial Accountability and Management, and the chairpersonship of the EIASM public sector conference.
We are currently seeking to make further appointments at Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Reader level to strengthen and expand our teaching and research activities in any area of accounting. All appointments would be on a teaching and research (ASER) contract.
Duties of the Role
Duties at Lecturer level will include effective engagement in substantive teaching and learning support at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The post-holder will also carry out research activities that will as a minimum meet the University’s expectations for future Research Exercise Framework (REF) exercises.
Duties at Senior Lecturer/Reader will include curriculum development and effective engagement in substantive teaching and learning support at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The post-holder will also carry out research activities that will as a minimum meet the University’s expectations for future Research Exercise Framework (REF) exercises and provide effective research leadership. At Reader level, the post-holder will provide leadership in ensuring own research and that of others in the Group/School generates impact beyond the academic sphere in keeping with the REF criteria
At any level, you will be expected to generate research income appropriate in scale to career stage and subject area norms.

Qualifications and Skills required
Applicants should have a PhD in Accounting or specialism related to the area of the post (or be close to completion if applying at Lecturer level). Applicants will also need to have evidence of a clear publication plan for submission to future Research Excellence Framework (REF) exercises.
Applicants at Lecturer level will have proven experience of teaching at both undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels or demonstrable potential to achieve this. Applicants will also have evidence of a research agenda, engagement in high-quality research activity and a developing research profile.
Applicants at Senior Lecturer/Reader level will have a sustained record of effectiveness in education at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. You will also have an established and internationally recognised research profile, with a well-developed future research agenda and a record of success in generating external research income appropriate in scale to disciplinary norms and career stage.
