Conducting world-class biomedical research safely, sustainably and successfully in central London is a significant undertaking.  The scale and complexity of the science requires a highly professional and effective Health & Safety team.  This senior role provides a great opportunity for someone to use their solid understanding of Health & Safety to lead a team providing the framework and assurance mechanisms that are practical and ensure the Institute remains legally compliant, meets its regulatory duties and internal policy objectives.  The role is critical to enabling achievement of the strategy objective ‘We will be audit and inspection ready at all times.’

Key Responsibilities

  • Define, develop and maintain a comprehensive framework of policies and procedures for Health & Safety within the Crick.  
  • Through the training and competency manager, ensure that the training and competency requirements of staff are clearly defined and relate to roles.
  • Develop and deliver assurance processes (e.g. audit and inspections) and systems that will deliver the strategy objectives ‘We will be audit and inspection ready at all times.’
  • Perform regulatory compliance analyses continually developing the legal register to ensure the Crick is up to date and can address any new obligations and duties.
  • Oversee, through the work of the Policy and Systems Advisor (working with IT and science), the selection, development and ongoing improvement of technology platforms that support the delivery of best practice and provide robust and accurate management information.
