The Role

Northeastern University London wishes to appoint a Lecturer in Architectural History to lead an introduction to architectural history course.

Prospective applicants should be able to lead courses in the global history of architecture cities and landscapes from antiquity to present. Preference may be given to candidates with active interests in the relationship of architectural history to one or more of the following areas: software and/or technology; employment contexts; diversity and inclusion. The proposed course studies important monuments in the global history of architecture, as well as tools for analysing the built environment. Applicants will be evaluated on their abilities to situate buildings in relation to their political, social, economic, and cultural context, and as expressions of diversity in human societies and cultural perspectives. Topics include the language of architecture, architectural drawings, the classical orders, the problem of ornament, construction techniques, materials, site, and the role of the patron. The course also aims to develop students' eye for composition in two and three dimensions, aesthetic discrimination of detail, ability to see buildings as part of a larger social and cultural fabric, and critical judgment in speaking and writing.

We particularly encourage applications from those with an interest in innovative teaching, learning and assessment; those with experience of supporting a wide variety of students; and those belonging to groups underrepresented in UK higher education. We are open to appointing on a reduced fraction/job-share basis subject to our business needs.
