Our dynamic studio-based Architecture courses address in different ways the role of the contemporary architect in relation to physical and social contexts and environments, as well as to the specificity of the architectural discipline in relation to other forms of spatial and creative practice. We are seeking to appoint a Course Leader for our BA (Hons) Architecture and Master of Architecture courses –which operate within the Architecture and Interior Design programme. The post will contribute to the future direction and curriculum of the Architecture courses, and will have a key role in developing, leading and delivering inspiring and innovative teaching.

The role involves working closely with the Director of the Architecture and Interior Design Programme, to strengthen the course’s critical approach to spatial and environmental design, debating and contributing to contemporary shifts in the industry, society and the environment, and addressing global issues. The role includes leadership, management and promotion of the course, and the forging of collaborative multidisciplinary links with other programmes and courses in the university and beyond, as well as with the profession and industry.

You will be an experienced and inspiring academic leader with the vision, insight, commitment, and skills to further develop, deliver and promote the courses. You will have a background in architecture, and strong experience in academia and/or professional practice in architecture and cognate subjects.

You will have strong national profile as a creative practitioner, industry professional and/or researcher. You will have a strong network of relevant partners and the ability to develop and deliver significant collaborative projects.

The successful applicant will be an excellent teacher who put inclusivity at the heart of their practice. You will be an advocate for the discipline, promoting the courses to prospective students and teachers, both at home and internationally. You will have the ability to work closely with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, bringing diverse voices into our student experience and ensuring the support we give our students is culturally competent. You will have the ambition to equip students with the social and cultural capital that will allow them to confidently grasp graduate-level opportunities and challenges.

The successful applicants will demonstrate excellent skills in organisation, management, team building and evidence of enhancing student educational experience and outcomes. A collaborative and collegiate approach to leadership and teamworking is an essential attribute for this role, which will require working closely with colleagues from other courses and departments.
