The Role
This is a career-defining opportunity at the heart of a department that consists of a dynamic group of dedicated, experienced and energetic teachers and practitioners who inspire their students and help them to achieve successful careers in journalism and the communication industries. You’ll join a varied programme of practice and research-led teaching that seeks to bring professional practice into the classroom. You will lead, plan, deliver and assess a range of modules on our undergraduate and postgraduate journalism programmes including practice at every level including digital journalism, news and feature writing, online and print magazine production and editing, using a variety of technologies and approaches to deliver a lively education to your students that can be translated into real-world skills. You’ll share knowledge and expertise through professional practice, pursuing opportunities that can generate profitable income and support students with valuable work placements.
The Person
You will be an experienced journalist with a proven recent record of employment in an integrated newsroom or news environment with experience of working across platforms. You will be up to date with changes in journalism and will be interested in preparing graduates for working in this fast-evolving industry. Expertise in digital journalism, news production, data journalism, news reporting and production (including helping to run our print and online campus news operation, "The River and River Online"), video reporting, podcasting, audience engagement (e.g. SEO and social media), and sub-editing are desirable. The ideal candidate will have professional experience working within HE although this is preferred but not essential. If you haven’t already achieved the relevant level of UKPSF recognition, we’ll need you to do so before the end of your probation period.

This is a part-time permanent role working 29.6 hours per week, with a starting salary for a Lecturer of £33,745.50 (80% to £42,182) per annum and a starting salary for a Senior Lecturer of £37,603.20 (80% to £47,004) per annum.
