We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Histology Technician to assist in the running of the Histology Laboratory that serves the needs of diagnosis and the research groups of the Department, the Queen's Veterinary School Hospital, Cambridge Equine Hospital, Cambridge Farm Animal Services, and external sources.
Applicants should be educated to GCSE standard and have Grade C or above in English, Maths and one Science subject. Experience of all routine histological preparation procedures, including tissue processing and sectioning, H&E and histochemical staining techniques and immunohistochemistry are essential but applicants with similar professional background could be considered for this post. The post holder will use specialist knowledge and techniques and will require excellent observational skills and the ability to remain focussed for long periods of time.
Applicants should also be able to demonstrate familiarity of health and safety issues within a laboratory setting, a strong customer focus and accurate record keeping skills, including basic knowledge of computer programmes. It is essential that applicants should also be able to demonstrate good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise their own workload and be able to work as part of a team and on their own initiative.
The full incremental salary range for the position is advertised in order to demonstrate the progression for the grade. In the majority of cases appointments will be made at the grade minimum; only in very specific exceptional circumstances can a higher salary be offered.
Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment.
