We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated Postdoctoral Research Assistant to join Professor Kim Midwood’s lab. You will be based at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, within the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences at the University of Oxford.
You will be a member of a dynamic research group with responsibility for analysis of autoantigen patterns in long term cancer survivors, and mapping of B and T cell epitopes within novel antigens. This project will exploit data from proteomic profiling of large patient cohorts to identify and recapitulate protective B cell mediated anti-tumoral responses. This is a highly collaborative project involving academic and industrial partners.
You will manage your own academic research and administrative activities, this involves small scale project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines. You will contribute ideas for new research projects, carry out collaborative projects with colleagues in partner institutions and research groups, use specialist scientific equipment in a laboratory environment and adapt existing and develop new scientific techniques and experimental protocols.
You will hold a relevant PhD/DPhil (or be near completion) in Immunology, or a related discipline, together with relevant experience, have a strong background in tumor immunology and/or B cell biology and have experience in western blotting, ELISAs, flow cytometry and culture of tumor cell lines. You will have previous experience of contributing to high impact publications and have the ability to independently manage own academic research and associated activities. Experience of patient cohort databasing and analysis of proteomic data is desirable.
This is a fixed-term, full time position for 18 months.
If a candidate cannot be found to fill the grade 7 position, a lower offer may be made to a less experienced candidate at grade 6, with a commensurate adjustment of duties and change in job title to ‘Research Assistant in Cancer Immunology’
Due to the nature of the research at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, this job will require additional security pre-employment checks:
• A satisfactory basic Disclosure and Barring Service check
The closing date for this position is 12 noon on Thursday 27 April 2023. You will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your online application.
