London Universities Purchasing Consortium is recruiting for a Sustainability Lead  to join our small, friendly team! Salary range £30,000- £45,000 dependent on experience and flexible working opportunities available in an inclusive, progressive and supportive working environment.

We welcome applicants who have the relevant skills, whether they are recently starting out on their career or have more experience in this area. The salary offered will be dependent on the skills and experience of the applicant.

Responsible Procurement has been at the heart of all we do for some years now and some of our significant achievements include:

  • Being the first public body in the UK to produce a Modern Slavery Statement;
  • Producing the first public sector guide to Modern Slavery, for our members and for CIPS members;
  • Being a founding member of Electronics Watch, the global monitoring body, seeking to improve workers rights in ICT hardware supply chains;
  • Having the Responsible Procurement team provide input to all our tendering activity;
  • Being the first public body to follow the ISO 20400 international standard for sustainable procurement, independent assessment of LUPC ensures our continuous improvement;
  • Developing an LUPC Supplier Due Diligence Tool, to work with our suppliers and help them to enhance their responsible business activities;
  • Sponsoring a PhD student from one of our member organisations, who works with us on responsible procurement activities two days a week;
  • Measuring our carbon emissions for Scope 1, 2 and 3 for the last two years; and
  • Being consultant contributors to the OSCE ‘Combatting Trafficking in Human Beings’ guidance.

Click Apply to see the full job description detailing how the successful candidate would contribute to all areas of LUPC’s Responsible Procurement activity. It is not necessarily anticipated that the successful applicant would have procurement knowledge; this is not a barrier to application and we realise that we may need to assist in the development of this area for the appointee.

In the near future, we have the following Responsible Procurement activities that the successful candidate would also be involved in:

  • New Carbon offsetting framework;
  • LUPC net zero: our target is to be net zero (with offsetting) for Scope 1, 2 & 3, in 2023 and we will be sharing our experiences with our members;
  • LUPC’s Supplier Due Diligence Tool will be rolled out to additional LUPC suppliers; and
  • We are part of an academic research project looking at how climate and human rights in supply chains intersect.

Terms and Conditions

  • 30 days of annual leave plus 5 - 7 additional days around the Easter and Christmas breaks.
  • Access to the SAUL defined contribution scheme.
  • Season Ticket loans available following successful completion of the three-month probation period.
  • Flexible working permitted (minimum of one day in the London office currently required).

Application process
You should submit a cover letter outlining how you feel you meet the requirements and why you are interested in the role along with your CV to the Director, Don Bowman, d.bowman@lupc.ac.uk

by the end of the day on 21 April 2023.

LUPC reserve the right to appoint prior to this date if the right candidate comes forward sooner.

A maximum of 5 candidates will be invited to interview, which will take place in Central London on a date yet to be agreed in April 2023.
