Do you want to join a world top 100 University and one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK? Do you want to support world-class research with cutting-edge technology platforms and services?
The University of Sheffield delivers life-enhancing research, innovation and education - come and join one of the teams that makes that possible. In IT Services, we’re dedicated to providing excellent IT systems, services and infrastructure to meet the needs of our students and colleagues. Our world is dynamic and so are we. We work closely with everyone who uses IT at the University, to make sure it works for them, so they can focus on improving themselves and the world around us. So, if you want to support the next generations of students, leaders and researchers, we want you on our team.
The Research and Innovation IT team are enthusiastic and dynamic. We are motivated by supporting and enabling researcher and research projects across all faculties that make a difference to people's lives through science, engineering and health research.
This exciting role as Head of Research Platforms Engineering is critical to providing researchers with access to the technology that is essential for new and emerging research techniques and processes. The University has committed to providing research platforms with significant investment over the past few years, culminating in the launch of our newest HPC (12,000 CPU cores plus ~70 GPUs) this spring.
As well as managing and developing the University’s High Performance Compute platforms, the Head of Research Platforms Engineering will lead the team in supporting researchers using cloud computing platforms to get fast access to computation resources and design cloud-based platforms to meet specific research workloads.
We are looking for someone with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, who can work effectively with colleagues in our infrastructure teams as well as directly manage suppliers.
This role offers the opportunity to develop leadership and management skills whilst creating a dynamic user-centred service in conjunction with multiple internal and external stakeholders. The contribution of this service to the national agenda around providing the technology infrastructure required to power the next generation of research, makes this a high-profile position both in the University and more broadly.
We are committed to enabling employees to work in a hybrid model with flexibility over when, where and how to achieve the required outputs, in discussion with your manager.
The University’s Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, and access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.
We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
