The role

Do you want to oversee a dynamic, world-renowned research centre, working with internationally leading academics to grow and manage an ambitious portfolio of research and impact activities in telecoms?

The Smart Internet Lab is one of the UK's most renowned Information and Communications Technology (ICT) research centres. It fuses research expertise and innovation in a range of research areas such as: IoT, 5G & Beyond, Future Transport Networks, Smart Cities, Autonomous Networks, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Network, Convergence, Mobile Edge Computing and Network Softwarisation.

You will provide operational leadership and management for the centre, working closely with the Director, academics, researchers & technical staff and lead a team of professional research support staff.

What will you be doing?

  • Oversee the smooth running of all aspects of the Smart Internet Lab, particularly support for research activities, both pre-award and post-award. 
  • Facilitate the maintenance and growth of the Smart Internet Lab’s research portfolio by identifying strategic funding opportunities, building new connections with industry and users of research, and assist with the preparation of grant applications.
  • Work with the Director to ensure the continued development and external promotion of a strategically important research centre at the University of Bristol.  
  • Manage a research support team to ensure that they can reach their full potential and provide excellent support to the Smart Internet Lab’s major research activities.
