The van der Schaar Lab (https://www.vanderschaar-lab.com/) is a world-leading research group developing cutting-edge AI and machine learning technologies with the aim of driving a revolution in healthcare. The lab is looking for a talented, passionate individual to communicate its research through a combination of strategic thinking, targeted engagement, and compelling content creation.

As the lab's Technical Communications Manager, you will work closely with Professor Mihaela van der Schaar and the research team to develop and implement a multi-channel communications strategy to drive visibility and engagement among several distinct target audiences.

Having identified opportunities to showcase the lab's research, you will create high-quality written and visual content explaining the value, novelty, and impact of the lab's world-leading research. You will also plan and host sessions in the lab's two regular online engagement series: "Inspiration Exchange" (for machine learning and AI students and professionals) and "Revolutionizing Healthcare" (for practising clinicians). Both series aim to create new interdisciplinary communities and share insights and ideas around machine learning for healthcare. You will be given oversight over a wide range of platforms, including the lab's website, social media platforms, mailing lists, and YouTube channel. You will also work to build strong and productive relationships with the lab's internal and external stakeholders, including researchers, funding partners, and clinicians.

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate: 

  • prior experience across a broad range of communications disciplines; -ability to explain complex subject matter and sell ideas to diverse audiences through a variety of platforms; -exceptional writing and editing skills; -experience planning and hosting online events over Zoom, Teams, or similar platforms; -excellent project management and organisational skills; 
  • some familiarity with blogging platforms (WordPress in particular);  
  • basic knowledge of audiovisual software packages such as Adobe Premiere; and, -some familiarity with machine learning. 

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.
