Solent University has an ambitious research and knowledge exchange enabling strategy intended to ensure that the success of our students is shaped and inspired by our research and knowledge exchange. Building on our strengthening REF submissions, we are developing our research distinctiveness. In the next 5 years we intend to further grow our research culture by focusing on our core strengths and expertise within our research themes of environment, social issues and policy, sport and exercise science, and media and culture, and our knowledge exchange priorities of maritime, sustainable business, social justice, health and wellbeing, student entrepreneurship, and engineering. 

We would like to recruit a candidate who shares these research and knowledge exchange ambitions and can contribute to the research culture at Solent, joining our active research community. In your role, you will be supported to be involved in research, knowledge exchange and scholarly activity.  

The Department of Business and Law at Solent University, Southampton is seeking a Course Leader for Law.  The role is responsible for the effective development and delivery of the provision, ensuring the course team deliver courses that enhance the student experience and support the strategic priorities and student employability.

We are looking for a candidate that has a wide range of Higher Education experience that thrives on innovating curriculum, designing, and supporting engaging learning environments that is full of both theory and real-world application.  In addition, the role will involve developing and overseeing course content, module leading, research-informed teaching, supervision, designing assessments, pastoral support, and engaging to deliver objectives and uphold the Solent Values.

We particularly welcome applicants who hold a PhD (or close to completion) who also have relevant HE teaching and industry experience within law in at least two core/foundation subject areas.  Whilst not compulsory for this post, we are also interested in those who have the experience/ability to teach family and/or medical law.

Our innovative learning design framework has inclusivity at the heart, alongside providing strong graduate attributes mapped to the UN Sustainability goals, which is delivered across directed, collaborative and guide learning modes.  Therefore, strong knowledge of learning pedagogies is vital, including knowledge of online and blended learning and in developing interactive materials on the virtual learning environments to support the student learning experience.

Given that this is a key role within the Department as part of the Senior Management team, there will be an all-day interview in form of group activities and individual interview.  This will take place on 13th June 2023, and it will be necessary to attend in person at Solent University.
