Associate/Full Professor, Science Education

We are delighted to invite applications from scholars in the field of Science Education to join our STeM Education discipline group in the School of Curriculum and Pedagogy.

You will continue to develop your academic career by contributing to research, research-informed teaching, graduate supervision, service and leadership across the Faculty. You will be committed to supporting and mentoring students and early career researchers, which will enable you to create a productive research team.

As a senior academic, you will provide academic leadership in Science Education, contribute to teaching the Graduate Diploma in teaching programmes, and lead the development of new PG courses in consultation and collaboration with colleagues in STeM Education. that align with existing PG programmes and directions.

We are interested in applicants who are committed to science education curriculum, initial teacher education and who bring research expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Mātauranga Māori approaches to science education
  • Pacific and/or indigenous approaches to science education
  • Climate change, biodiversity loss and education
  • Socio-scientific issues and education
  • Critical approaches to science/science teaching
  • Digital learning and science, Mis/disinformation and science knowledge
  • Knowledge of the New Zealand Curriculum and schools in Aotearoa is an advantage.

The Faculty’s key strategic goals are to expand research capacity and postgraduate research in an environment that fosters and supports strong, inclusive and inspiring graduate and undergraduate teaching. We are fully committed, through our work and our relationships, to Māori intellectual and cultural advancement, the advancement of Pasifika interests, and to the achievement of equity objectives in education and social services.

Candidates who are not already familiar with New Zealand’s bicultural context will be asked to engage with Māori culture and systems of knowledge and to develop a sound understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and New Zealand’s place in the Pacific. The successful candidate will role-model a commitment to equity and inclusion, including in relation to gender diversity.

You will demonstrate personal credibility and interpersonal strengths to contribute to the reputation and profile of both the University of Auckland and the Faculty of Education and Social Work.

The appointment will either be at full or Associate Professor level according to University of Auckland Academic Standards.
