Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Student Services team at Imperial as our part-time Software Developer. Sitting within the Directorate of Academic Services, Student Services comprises several specialist teams including the Student Counselling and Mental Health Advice, Disability Advisory Service, Careers Service and Chaplaincy. We also manage a system of support within halls of residence.
The purpose of this role is to lead on the development of a new system to replace the outdated eHalls system that meets the needs of hall support teams and student residents. During development, the role holder will be responsible for technical maintenance for the current system, responding to bug reports and implementing minor improvement requests.
Duties and responsibilities
You will work collaboratively with hall warden teams and ICT staff to develop a new systems solution for administration within halls, which may operate within the current eHalls system or be entirely new. You will take the lead on all steps of development from capturing user requirements, user interface design, to crafting full technical solutions. You will ensure the system conforms to modern development practices and create comprehensive documentation.
During development of a new system, you will be responsible for the maintenance of the current eHalls system to maintain day-to-day administration within Halls of Residence. This includes bug fixes and minor improvement requests from halls staff.
Essential requirements
We are seeking someone with demonstrable previous experience of web development who is comfortable using a variety of front-end programming languages and frameworks, including PHP as a minimum, with a high level of attention to detail. You will have experience in MySQL database management, and be well-versed in using Linux OS and command line tools. You will be up to date with best practice in development, and experienced with development/version tooling.

This is a part-time (0.5 FTE) role offered as a 2-year fixed term contract in the first instance with potential for extension depending on need. This role will be based at the South Kensington Campus and eligible for hybrid working. The part-time working pattern will be flexible and discussed after an offer made.
