We are seeking an enthusiastic and talented individual to work on an innovative collaboration between SWMAS (South West Manufacturing Advisory Service) Limited and the University of Plymouth.  This position will be based near Bridgwater, Somerset (Hybrid working model).

The Role:

This is a very interesting and challenging role for a qualified scientist to work on a joint project under Knowledge Transfer Partnership, between SWMAS and the University of Plymouth.  The key objective of this role is review evidence and develop best practice to optimise a new Scope 3 assessment tool that will enable the value chain for manufacturing and other sectors to greatly reduce emissions to achieve 2050 Net Zero targets.  This will prepare the way for adoption of Life Cycle Assessment in the longer term.

The Candidate:

You will have:

Essential criteria that must be met.

  • A good first degree with a minimum 2.1 (Hons) in a relevant subject such as Environmental Science, Engineering, Business or similar. (Please specify grade).
  • A post graduate qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Experience of project management that will lead a company to successfully achieve a set objective.
  • Excellent communication skills to span all areas in the business and liaise with regulatory bodies and customers.

Desirable criteria that would be advantageous:

  • Practical experience of developing and implementing low carbon strategies to deliver sustainable Net Zero policies.
  • Familiarity in a topic related to Sustainable Manufacture, Net Zero, ESG, Life Cycle Assessment and Low Carbon Strategies,
  • Experience of working in industry is desirable and specifically within the engineering or manufacturing sector.
  • Experience in research and reviewing data to establish trends and draw meaningful conclusions.
  • Experience of developing training materials and scientific data sheets, and an ability to train others in the methods you have developed.
  • Familiarity with using low code software applications to develop tools.
  • Have the ability to work within existing QA systems.

You will be highly numerate with well-developed problem-solving skills. You will need a proven ability to lead a project from the scientific/engineering perspective.  An interest and enthusiasm in implementing environmental strategies, techniques and technologies is desirable and you will be a confident and outgoing team member who enjoys working in different environments.
