Role Description
Department
York Law School is driven by a shared commitment to collaboration and to the impact of scholarly research outside academia and the positive differences it can make to the lives of individuals and communities. Research within the School builds on a rich tradition of strong, impactful interdisciplinary work, drawing on legal ideas, methods, and frameworks to frame and reshape agendas on key social challenges.
York Law School (YLS) wishes to recruit a Research Associate with excellent qualitative research and communication skills with experience of conducting independent or collaborative research to work on the ESRC Vulnerability and Policing Futures Research Centre funded research project Defendants as Victims: a scoping review of vulnerability, victimhood and safeguards from charge to conviction. The post is fixed-term for 12 months at 80% FTE and will start on 1 September 2023. You will work closely with co-investigators Dr Ailbhe O’Loughlin and Dr Kate Leader of YLS and contribute to a scoping review of the academic and grey literature on vulnerable defendants and defendants who are also victims of crime, identifying priority areas for law reform. One output from this project will be a scoping paper submitted to the Law Commission of England and Wales. The paper will consider whether and, if so, how a future Law Commission project might review the way the law should treat defendants who are also victims of crime.
You will work with and support project activities that include: collecting data, liaising with project partners, interviewing stakeholders, report-writing, organisation of consultation and dissemination events, and preparing publications for high quality peer-reviewed journals.
