As a Senior Engineering Technician (IT) you will be responsible for providing a comprehensive and hard-working IT support service for staff and students across the department. This involves providing support for a number of professional service, research and teaching activities. You will provide advice and mentorship on a broad range of IT topics to support all staff as well as undergraduate and postgraduate student projects.
Specific duties include, specifying and planning the deployment and configuration of a variety of general and specialist IT equipment, providing training and demonstrations on the operation of equipment and promotion of good IT working practices such as information security. Introduce and maintain asset registers, and undertake other administrative support tasks, for example running an IT ticketing system, planning equipment refreshes and specifying/placing orders for new IT equipment. Some support for specialist local systems, such as servers and High Performance Computing (HPC) clusters running Linux will also be required.
The successful post holder will be the department’s lead on Research IT, providing IT input active research projects at all stages - utilising central IT services such as HPC, storage and assured computing platforms wherever possible. There will be a focus on information security throughout ensuring all the departments devices are secure and all corporate, research and teaching data is stored securely on the most appropriate platforms.
You will adopt high working standards to ensure staff and students are accurately supported, with a high level of customer service.
