The Role

The CRUK-funded group of Dr Ian Gibbs-Seymour in the Department of Biochemistry is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate with experience in protein purification, biophysical characterisation, crystallisation and structure determination of proteins. The group investigates mechanisms of ubiquitin-dependent signalling in DNA repair. Building on our recent discoveries, you will be responsible for determining the mechanistic basis of specificity, activation, and regulation of the recently discovered ZUP1 deubiquitinase in DNA repair. Through this you will contribute to the scientific output by publishing high quality manuscripts, training junior scientists, writing grant applications, and representing the group at scientific meetings.

This full-time fixed-term post is funded by CRUK for up to 2 years and is based at the Department of Biochemistry, South Parks Road, Oxford

About you

It is essential that you hold a PhD/DPhil, or be near completion of a PhD/DPhil in protein biochemistry and structural biology with an excellent academic track record, including at least one first author publication in an expert journal. You will have experience in protein crystallisation and optimisation of protein crystals, and extensive experience in cloning and recombinant protein purification using bacterial, insect cell or mammalian host systems. It is essential that you are able to work independently and as part of a team and be able to collaborate with colleagues.
