The University of Oxford has one of the largest and most successful chemistry departments in the world and the Department of Chemistry is looking to recruit a Deputy Building Manager.
 
About the Role
 
You will support the Building Manager in overseeing all of the work carried out in the Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory and multiple sites across the Department of Chemistry estate, which will include both scheduled and urgent/incident response and ensure that support services for research and teaching run efficiently.
 
Under the guidance of the Building Manager, you will plan and undertake a wide range of work including installation and maintenance of research equipment, maintenance and repair to the fabric of the building and its mechanical, electrical, pipe work and hair handling systems.
 
You will deputise as needed for the Building Manager including assuming full oversight of work and supervisory responsibilities in their absence.
 
About you
 
You will be able to demonstrate a range of technical skills and systems knowledge, and supervisor skills.  The ability to communicate effectively with building users and contractors, and the willingness to be hands-on when required in technical work.
 
You will have an advanced C&G or HNC or HND or NVQ3 or equivalent in Electrical, Mechanical or Building Services, and experience of working within a laboratory building environment. You will have a pro-active solution based approach to work and a flexible approach to duties and provision of facilities and services.
 
Effective communication skills are essential with the ability to explain technical matters clearly to a range of stakeholders and to respond calmly and effectively with urgent matters/emergencies.

The post will be based in the Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory, South Parks Road, Oxford. This post is full-time, permanent and available immediately.
