Job Summary

We invite applications for a Research Associate position in bioinformatics and computational biology to work on an exciting new project aimed at developing predictive biomarkers for blood cancers, funded by Blood Cancer UK. The successful candidate will be involved in cutting-edge research utilising statistical and machine learning models for genomic biomarker discovery, contributing to the advancement of precision medicine in the field of oncology. This project will be carried out in the established laboratories of Dr Prashant Srivastava’s and Prof. Guido Franzoso’s laboratory at the National Heart & Lung Institute and the Department of Immunology and Inflammation, Imperial College London. The programme of research focuses on the biology and therapeutic applications of a novel therapeutic under clinical evaluation in patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL).

This post offers a unique opportunity to be part of a world-class translational-medicine environment offered by Imperial College London. The post-holder will work within a multi-disciplinary team to tackle complex data science challenges in oncology.

Duties and responsibilities

We are looking for an enthusiastic, talented and well organised Research Associate who shares our excitement about our novel approach to treating Lymphoma. You should possess a PhD in Bioinformatics or an equivalent subject, or be nearing PhD completion.

The ideal candidate for this position will possess a broad range of skills in gene expression analysis (including bulk and single-cell analysis), genomics, genetics, systems biology and computer programming. They will ideally be responsible for the processing and analysis of bulk and scRNA-seq data, EcoTyper-assisted deconvolution of RNA-sequencing data, estimating DLBCL heterogeneity for biomarker discovery, and standardising/analysing public datasets for drug-induced gene-expression changes. Given the technical complexity of the research, the post holder must have strong computational and problem-solving skills.

They will share responsibility for day-to-day co-ordination, running and maintenance of bioinformatics analysis in collaboration with other bioinformaticians in the project team. This will include designing and implementing data processing pipelines and analyses, preparing data for publication and assisting with future funding applications.

You must be organised, highly self-motivated and have excellent communication, interpersonal and computer skills. You will need to manage your time and performance and must be strongly proactive, knowledgeable and able to solve complex problems.

Further Information

This is a full-time fixed-term position, the funding for which will start on 1st January 2024 for 36 months and will end on 31st December 2026.
