Project Description
Oxford Brookes’ team led by Dr Olga Barrera has developed codes for statistical characterization of architectural features of soft tissue (focused on the knee meniscus) from advanced imaging and for generating simplified artificial microstructures - exhibiting the same statistical distribution of physical parameters (porosity, size of collagen channels, tortuosity path of the channels, pore connectivity) as the native tissue.
This project focuses on damping properties characterization (experimental, numerical) and manufacturing techniques of meniscus- inspired dampers.
We will develop Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) models optimised taking into account complex porous hyperfoam saturated/partially saturated with fluid to design and model a range of damping systems with tunable characteristics.
