Applications are invited for a 0.5 FTE Research Project Support Officer post working in Bangor Business School on the Understanding the Welsh Tax Base project. This post is intended to support the development of an updatable database of the Welsh tax base.
The postholder will work closely with colleagues within the Tax and Welfare group to configure a database that can be easily updated. They will source data from various external sources, as well as providing support for in-house modelling of aspects of the tax base for which raw data are not readily available. The successful candidate will also help to develop the means by which the database will be used to increase the group’s engagement activities. They will aid in developing the specification for online calculators; in developing report templates and in writing initial reports. This post is an ideal opportunity for a data literate individual to engage in impactful research in an area of key policy interest.
Candidates should be educated to undergraduate degree in a data focused discipline (or equivalent) and have previous extensive experience of working with data. A high level of data literacy is essential for this post. A high level of competence in Excel is essential whilst experience with Python, R and/or Stata is desirable. Candidates should have the skills to communicate with external data providers and the initiative to find relevant data sources.

The successful candidate will be expected to commence as soon as possible and the post is available for a period of 8 months.
The ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh is desirable for this role.
This role will be located on campus at Bangor. Through our Dynamic Working framework, there will also be the option to spend some time working remotely (although remaining in the UK) to support work life balance, which will be discussed further with candidates at interview.
