Clarkeprint Limited and The College of Computing located within STEAMhouse at Birmingham City University (BCU) are seeking to appoint a high calibre graduate (graduated within the last five years), as an IT System Analyst.

This position forms part of the Knowledge Transfer programme (KTP), co-funded by a grant from Innovate UK and Clarkeprint Limited. The successful candidate will be employed by Birmingham City University, working fulltime delivering a 24-month KTP project with Clarkeprint Limited.  Clarkeprint Limited has provided its clients with an added-value printing service for over 40 years. The candidate recruited for this position will be employed as an IT System Analyst (KTP Associate). This role presents an exciting opportunity to work in collaboration with leading academics at BCU to apply knowledge and technical innovation, delivered on site at the company.  The IT System Analyst (KTP Associate) should have a minimum 2.1 University qualification in a relevant subject area and should be graduated within the last five years. 

LOCATION AND REPORTING

  • This IT System Analyst (KTP Associate) position will be based on site at Clarkeprint Limited, Spring Hill, Birmingham, B18 7AJ
  • The IT System Analyst (KTP Associate) will have full access to Birmingham City University’s resources such as offices, labs, and library to complete the project
  • The IT Systems Analyst (KTP Associate) will be supported by the academics from BCU’s College of Computing in the Faculty of CEBE and will work in Clarkeprint Limited to embed and transfer the knowledge from the project into the host company

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will lead the technical design and development of the project. 

The IT System Analyst (KTP Associate) will work on:

  • Establishing the organisation's requirements and aligning these to the project goals
  • Redesigning processes and integrating systems
  • Introducing the kaizen and lean continuous process improvement approach
  • Producing specifications by using design thinking for new product development
  • Providing training for new or modified systems to users

The role requires the successful candidate to:

  • Embed new IT methods/procedures through co-working with a multi-disciplinary team and identifying functional champions to support post-project improvements
  • Interact with various stakeholders, including users, to establish their needs. IT systems vendors to better understand the systems and the CEO to understand the company's strategic direction
  • Create methods for data-driven decision-making and focus on continuous improvement and innovation
  • Provide leadership for generating new ways of working among the workforce and managing the changes
  • Design and facilitate workshops to share and transfer knowledge.
  • Apply their knowledge to commercial projects, driving value and making an impact where possible, with an ability to solve problems and create innovative solutions

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential 

  • A minimum 2:1 undergraduate qualification in a computing discipline
  • Knowledge of business process modelling
  • Understanding of systems integration and change management methodologies
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, C#, Python, and databases
  • An ability to work to tight deadlines (with attention to detail) and maintain high work standards
  • An ability and aptitude to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team
  • Self-starter and self-motivated, happy to work alone and as part of an embedded team, and self-management and planning skills to make optimum use of time
  • Strong organisational and leadership skills in successfully implementing and embedding innovations within a company or organisation

Desirable

  • A master's degree or PhD in computing or a closely related discipline will be an advantage
  • Knowledge and experience of systems integration and APIs would be advantageous
  • Experience in utilising Design Thinking and facilitating workshops
  • A good understanding of, or willingness and ability to learn, the printing industry management

Personal Skills:

  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and able to take a proactive role in delivering the proposal's work plan successfully
  • Practical interpersonal skills to establish good working relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, and industrial partners
  • Excellent communication skills to express ideas adequately and articulate complicated matters between the academics and the company project team members either orally or in writing
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and computational skills, along with being Adept at applying knowledge to commercial projects, driving value and making an impact where possible
  • Strong leadership and project management skills
