Post Summary

The Workday Professor of Technology and Society will be responsible for leading and growing a research team focused on understanding the social and ethical implications of emerging technologies, in particular AI, and developing strategies for engaging with community groups and civic society to promote informed public discourse and influence public policy. The post-holder will have a strong record of research and publication in areas related to technology and society, and a demonstrated commitment to teaching, mentoring, administration and service to the academic community.

We invite applications from accomplished candidates with a PhD in Sociology or a related field, who are enthusiastic about making significant contributions to research output and teaching programmes at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels in TU Dublin and Trinity College Dublin. The post-holder will play a pivotal role in advancing our research initiatives and academic curriculum.

They will be expected to:

Conduct innovative empirical research in the realm of digital sociology, focusing on the societal and social implications of technological advancements, including AI, preferably exploring issues at the cross-roads of social inequality, digitalisation, and technological change;

Employ quantitative and/or mixed research methodologies, including cutting-edge approaches from digital social research, to enrich the depth and scope of their work.

Post status: Permanent Position (TCD 40% / TU Dublin 60%)

Salary: Appointment will be made on the Professorial salary scale at a point in line with Government Pay Policy [€132,301 – €167,243 annum] - www.tcd.ie/hr/assets/pdf/monthly-academic.pdf

Presentation & Interviews are expected to take place in person on Tuesday, 6th February and Wednesday 7th February 2024.
