The Role

Reporting to the Platform Services Manager for ITDS, the post holder will be part of the team supporting and managing the ITDS platform systems and infrastructure, both on-premise and in the public cloud, ensuring the systems meet the requirements of the University to defined KPI measurements.

The platform engineer role specializes in either Microsoft or Linux based services; this post is for a Linux specific role.

It is expected that the post holder will have a very strong, demonstrable, background in deploying and supporting Redhat Enterprise Linux Server environments including storage configuration experience within file systems & using logical volumes, Kickstart based deployments, apache web server installations, MySQL and extensive TCP/IP networking experience.

You should also have strong practical knowledge of supporting and maintaining SMTP server configurations & security, DNS & IP address management, scripting in shell, Perl or Python and a good knowledge of VMware vSphere ESXi as this is currently supporting the majority of University systems hosted on-premise.

Knowledge of cloud based infrastructure deployments and management using both IaaS and PaaS models would be advantageous, especially within an Azure solution, as this is the cloud platform of choice.
