The Activate Student Mentoring Programme Coordinator will administer and support the Activate Student Mentoring Programme (Activate).  Activate was established in October 2022 to support recipients of the College’s Presidential Scholarships for Black heritage students (undergraduates and Master’s students) and PhD students of Black heritage.  In 2023-24, Activate was extended to support PhD students of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic heritage and will be extended in 2024-25 to support disabled PhD students.  In the future, it is likely that Activate will be extended to support other under-represented groups of students at Imperial College London.

The Activate Student Mentoring Programme Coordinator is based in the Graduate School at Imperial, but the role holder will work closely with other teams across the College as the mentoring programme is extended.

Duties and responsibilities

The Activate Student Mentoring Programme Coordinator will lead the administration and organisation of the Programme, will provide administrative support for the training and development of Activate mentors and mentees, play a lead role in supporting the matching of mentors with mentees and will coordinate a programme of events, cohort activities and networking activities for programme participants.  The Activate Student Mentoring Programme Coordinator will also lead the annual review of the programme, making recommendations for its future development.

In addition to this, the Activate Student Mentoring Programme Coordinator will organise and deliver the Graduate School’s annual event for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic heritage undergraduate students interested in postgraduate education at Imperial.

Essential requirements

We are looking for a individual who has prior experience of supporting similar schemes either within the private sector or within the education sector.  Excellent communication skills and experience of working with a range of stakeholders is essential.  Applicants must be able to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of key issues, challenges and barriers preventing students from particular groups or backgrounds from succeeding in higher education or their chosen career.

This is a part-time role (2.5 days per week), based at the South Kensington Campus.

Hybrid working may be considered for this role. Staff working in roles that are suitable for hybrid working will normally be expected to work 60% of their time onsite. The opportunity for hybrid working will be discussed at interview.
