Part-Time, Term-Time Mental Health Practitioner & Advisor

21 hours per week, term-time only

This is a permanent position
This position will be based on Singleton Campus. There may also be a requirement to work on Bay Campus.

Introduction

To deliver an effective, creative and integrated supportive and therapeutic service to Swansea University students. To work as part of the Wellbeing Team, based in the Inclusive Student Support Services department in the directorate of Student Life. The post holder will also collaborate with Academic Faculties and Professional Services across the University to strengthen and further develop the provision available for students with a range of psychological and emotional difficulties.

Main Duties (full information available on the Job Description)

  • Act as the first point of contact and plan support for students who present to the Wellbeing and Disability Service experiencing emotional and mental health difficulties
  • Provide specialised mental health interventions and specific therapeutic /clinical interventions according to training level and experience.
  • Help students to build resilience and balance their academic responsibilities with the need to care for their own mental wellbeing.
  • Liaise with the Wellbeing and wider University departments, advising academic staff and other colleges/professional services in the co-ordination of a student’s support plan.

Qualifications:

  • A professional qualification in the field of mental health & recent experience of practicing within this qualification.
  • Membership with an appropriate organisation

Experience:

  • Experience and evidence of effective working and contribution within a multi-disciplinary team setting and respect for a holistic approach to care and support

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Demonstrable knowledge of working within clinical and non-clinical mental health organisations with adults aged 17+
  • Knowledge and experience of risk assessment and management
  • Understanding of students’ issues and the demands of student life skills
