The Director of Communications and Engagement position is a senior role that is pivotal to ensuring the University and its 5,100 workforce achieves these ambitions and its purpose.
An experienced communications leader, the successful candidate will play an important strategic leadership role in developing and implementing the University's internal and external communication and engagement strategies, ensuring its relationships and reach with key stakeholders and reputation are strengthened at a local, national and international level.
With experience and credibility of working with senior colleagues at Board level and with highly developed intellect and emotional intelligence, the candidate will have a proven track record of building effective relationships and delivering joint outcomes with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
The successful candidate will have an in-depth understanding of core communications disciplines, including the digital agenda, media relations and issues management, public affairs, PR and external stakeholder relations, internal staff engagement and change management. They will also bring experience of leading a skilled and high performing communications function in a large, complex organisation; underpinned by a genuine passion for the transformative power of education and research.
As a leader in a fast-changing discipline, the candidate will be up to date with the latest communication and engagement trends, tools and thinking, including emerging technologies, platforms and systems, encouraging adoption of new ideas and best practice from within and outside of the Higher Education sector.
