JOB DESCRIPTION

We seek junior / senior glasshouse technicians/agronomists with experience in one or more of the following: (i) microbiology, (ii) glasshouse-based crop studies and/or (iii) field crop studies. We are seeking individuals who can help us maintain, expand and test our extensive microbial biobank, produce microbial products for field application, conduct high throughput glasshouse studies and/or work with collaborators to conduct field studies. In the laboratory we see individuals with expertise in microbial culturing, DNA-based identification, and microbial maintenance. Using DNA-based technology, they will work with collaborators to assess the impact of endophyte applications on the soil and plant microbiome Experience in microbial isolation, purification and culturing, as well as DNA extraction and PCR is essential.

In the glasshouse and field, we seek individuals with experience in the design, set up and evaluation of trials, or other equivalent experience. The successful candidates will help us optimise our products and test their potential to improve plant performance in the glasshouse and field. For field work, the freedom to travel to field locations within Ireland & Europe for work is essential. Building on our current products, we will select more optimal microbial consortia for the field, based on glasshouse studies, and field staff will travel within Ireland, the UK and Europe to assess the performance of endophytes (in collaboration with partner trial sites) and conduct assessments of the impact of endophytes on grain quality. In addition, they will conduct studies to assess the impacts of endophytes on the soil and plant microbiome, which will involve collection of soil and plant samples in Ireland, the UK and the EU,. 

REQUIREMENTS

Applicants for Junior technician positions require a minimum of an honours degree and preferably and MSc in a relevant discipline (e.g. microbiology, biology, crop science). For senior level, applicants must possess a PhD in a related discipline and/or a high level of relevant industrial & microbiology experience and an ability to manage and supervise other staff.

The successful candidates should be highly motivated, have good communication skills and must be prepared to work within a multidisciplinary team. Possession of a driving licence is desirable. A willingness and ability (necessary work visas) to work in Ireland and travel to other European field site locations is essential .

LOCATION

We are seeking senior/junior candidates based at our Dublin headquarters required also to travel within Ireland and throughout Europe.
