Brunel University London is seeking a Professor of Computer Science on a permanent basis who will also take on the leadership role of Director of the Institute of Digital Futures for a fixed term duration of 4 years.
The candidate will play a key role in energizing digitally-based interdisciplinary research across the University and promote Brunel’s excellent track record in this area nationally and internationally. The candidate will be expected to make significant contributions towards the Computer Science and Informatics UoA in REF2028 in terms of outputs, environment (especially in terms of attracting research funding and successful doctoral supervision) and impact. The candidate will also contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes in the Department of Computer Science. The successful applicant will also advise on embedding digitally-related research into our undergraduate and postgraduate courses and to potentially lead a new Masters degree in this area. Finally, they will also be expected to play a significant role in providing inspirational mentorship to early and mid-career colleagues in the digital research area.
The Department of Computer Science at Brunel is internationally recognised, ranked 3rd by discipline in the UK by performance ranking of scientific papers and 1st for average citations, H-index and highly cited papers (source NTU 2021). We have particular strengths in research into computing methodologies (Intelligent data analysis, artificial intelligence, simulation and modelling), software engineering, human centred computing (HCI and interactive multimedia systems) and digital economy (including IOT, trust, privacy and cyber security). Our research delivers creative computing solutions to industrial and societal challenges, with applications including healthcare, overseas development, education, ecology, finance and manufacturing. In REF 2021 over 40% of our research output was rated 4*.
The Research Institute of Digital Futures aims to create an inclusive and inter-disciplinary research environment that focuses on the application of digital methodologies and technologies across multiple disciplines throughout the University.
