The role

The University of Bristol Business School seeks to appoint a Professor in Practice. This new post will primarily work with the School to promote the integration of academic teaching, research and scholarship with practical experience. This particular post also has a specific remit to help the School develop its Executive Education offering and therefore the candidate should have significant experience of designing and delivering executive education and executive development.

What will you be doing?

Our Professor in Practice will be a current practitioner with distinguished experience in their field. They will hold either a Masters degree or a higher postgraduate research degree (e.g. PhD, DBA).  They will be expected to retain an ongoing role in practice, thereby ensuring the relevance of their knowledge for our students and for our research impact.

The Professor in Practice will expect to benefit from this role by:

  • Having opportunities to influence, for example, the Business Schools strategy, research activity or teaching programmes.
  • Engaging with the next generation of management professionals.
  • Having access to a network of academics, research associates, students, both throughout the School and the University.
  • Working with members of the School to tackle important problems and Grand Challenges.

The Professor in Practice will be expected to work with academics, professional services, external stakeholders and students across a variety of activities. We are seeking to make an appointment that aligns with our Work, Employment, Organisation and Public Policy academic discipline and, therefore, applications are sought from candidates with specialisms in one or more of the following areas:

  • People, Work and Organisation
  • Human Resource Management in the Global Economy
  • Organisation Theory
  • Management and Organisation
  • Management Consultancy

The Professor in Practice role will be part-time up to an FTE of 0.5 FTE (to be mutually agreed with the successful candidate) and will initially be for a period of 3 years, with an option to extend if both the school and Professor agree.
