About Nanjing University Institute of Space Earth Science

Nanjing University Institute of Space and Earth Sciences is a new research institution located at the Suzhou Campus. It is dedicated to the interdisciplinary fusion research of Earth sciences, space sciences, and information sciences. The institute conducts research on space-based Earth observation, Earth big data, lunar-based and lunar-Earth system observations, and theories and technologies. It aims to build platforms for simulating Earth environments, sustainable human development, and future environments.

Job Summary

As one of the first batches of institutes established by Nanjing University in the Suzhou Campus, the Institute of Space Earth Science (ISES) focuses on the integration of Earth Science, Space Science, and Information Sciences. ISES invites applications for the positions of tenure-track Associate Professor in four primary research directions:

  1. Theory and Techniques of Earth Observation from Space
  2. Big Earth Data Science and Technology
  3. Moon-Based Observation of Earth and Solar System
  4. Sustainable Development Science

Duties and Responsibilities:

Research

  • To conduct a broad range of research relating to remote sensing, big Earth data, sustainable development science, and moon-based Earth observation.
  • To lead, or contribute to, a research area at the highest scientifically rigorous levels, disseminating research findings in peer reviewed journals, and through participation in national and international conferences.
  • To supervise, train, and mentor research staffs and students at the highest scientifically rigorous levels.
  • To attend and contribute to research and administrative meetings as and when requested.

Teaching

  • To teach and examine courses for masters and higher research degrees – through lectures, seminars, tutorials, course work, and personal supervision.
  • To supervise MS and PhD students.

Team Work

  • To work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary teams at ISES and Nanjing University as required.
  • To resolve conflict and difficult situations through negotiation and discussion, involving appropriate parties.
  • To adhere to University guidelines on leave including reporting absence.

Requirement

The ideal candidate should hold a Ph.D. degree in Earth Science, Remote Sensing, Geographic Information Science, Computer Science or a related field, and have a demonstrated successful teaching and research record in universities, research institutions, or enterprises, with minimum 3-year experience.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Remuneration:Minimum salary starting from 800,000 yuan during the employment period.

*Some departments have additional salary.

*Qualified talents can receive additional subsidies of no less than 600,000 yuan within the first three years of employment supported by the “Zijin Scholar” talent fund.

*Qualified talents can receive additional allowances supported by “Suzhou Excellent Talent Contribution Reward Allowance.”

  • Title:Appointed as “ZHICHENG Young Professor”, enjoying a staff status.
  • Tax-free allowance:A total of 1 million tax-free subsidies from the state and local governments.
  • Start-up fund:The state provides 1 million to 3 million yuan, and Nanjing University provides no less than 2 million yuan. Specially outstanding individuals can apply for additional funds.

*Personnel in related fields can apply for the “Suzhou Innovation and Entrepreneurship Leading Talent Project”, and receive funding support of 500,000 to 1 million yuan.

*Personnel in relevant fields can work part-time in Suzhou National Laboratory, enjoying the treatment of part-time laboratory personnel.

  • Housing:Nanjing University provides a housing subsidy of 1.4 million yuan (pre-tax) to support each candidate to purchase a talent house of Nanjing University (about 130 square meters).
  • Children’s education:Children can be arranged to study in high-quality kindergartens, primary schools, secondary schools which are affiliated to Nanjing University.
  • Health care:VIP medical services are provided by the professional medical care team of the University hospital.
