About the role
The School Operations Officer will be responsible for managing all aspects of Human Resources in the School including recruitment, induction, academic probation, promotion and exit, and will act as a main point of contact for the HR Department. The post-holder will also support the School’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion agenda including coordinating the submission of departmental Athena SWAN applications.
The post-holder will support the Head of School, the School Manager and other members of the School’s Senior Management Team in the implementation of strategic initiatives and the efficient operation of the School. This includes line management responsibility for the Operations Administrator & PA to the Head of School.
Previous experience of working within an admin context supporting recruitment, retention, development, or reward of staff, ideally within in a higher education environment, is necessary. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a proven ability to prioritize your workload and to work independently is essential.
About the School
The School of Mathematical Sciences has over 80 academic staff, 15 post-doctoral staff and a professional services team of 14 staff. The School is structured around 6 centres and has approximately 1000 undergraduate students, 100 postgraduate taught students and 80 PhD students together with a number of lively student-led societies including our award-winning Mathematics Society.
The School is part of the Faculty of Science and Engineering which comprises of five schools and two institutes. The Faculty’s student population has grown, both within the UK and overseas, in recent years and its research profile has strengthened considerably. The Faculty is focused on establishing itself as one of the leading Faculties for Science and Engineering in the UK.
